![]() | Michael A. Amaral, MD, F.A.C.S.Dr. Michael A. Amaral is a board certified neurosurgeon and has been in practice since 1986. He completed his neurosurgical training at the University of Chicago, Illinois. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. In 1996, Dr. Amaral decided to focus on complex spine surgery. He subsequently became interested in sacroiliac dysfunction when a coworker was successfully treated for the problem after remaining undiagnosed for several years. Dr. Amaral came to Georgia in July of 2003. He has lectured on spine and sacroiliac problems, both nationally and internationally. Dr. Amaral was born and raised in Paris, France. His father was a U.S. Official affiliated with N.A.T.O. while his mother was French. After obtaining a Bachelors of Arts in Biology at Boston University, he rejoined his family in Belgium. His medical education was at the Brussels University School of Medicine, and he practiced there as a family physician before undertaking his neurosurgical training at the University of Chicago. He currently practices at the Brain & Spine Institute at Gwinnett Medical Center.
